VINYL ESTER RESIN
RAYPLEX® #217 Vinyl Ester Resin ( promoted )offers increased strength, corrosion resistance and durability and are used in a wide variety of applications. While vinyl ester resins are classified as polyester-based formulations, they are actually an intermediate between a polyester backbone and epoxy terminations on the ends of the molecules. They are based on either bisphenol-A or novolac chemistry with methacrylic acid forming the polymer. Used extensively to produce corrosion resistant tanks, pipe and other components, vinyl ester resins have a higher resistance to corrosive chemicals and environments than regular unsaturated polyesters. For this reason, vinyl ester resins and vinyl ester blended with polyester are also used extensively in the marine industry to produce an effective water resistant barrier for boat hulls and other parts. Vinyl ester resins can be formulated to perform in a variety of applications requiring increased strength over polyester resins and in many cases they bridge the applications gap between polyester resin and epoxy resin.
It is compatible with all gel coats and requires RAYPLEX® Liquid Hardener (MEKP).
