Carbon Fibre Plain Weave
For lightweight aerodynamic parts, this plain weave carbon fiber is commonly selected for delivering uniform strength in both horizontal and vertical directions. In this weave the weft goes over one warp and under the next, creating a grid-like pattern.
Features include:
- Has a slightly tighter weave pattern.
- Wets out quickly.
- Handles easily without distorting.
- Unmatched strength to weight ratio
- Fatigue resistance for durable strength
This plain weave carbon fiber is the most commonly used type for lightweight aerodynamic parts. Only three layers are typically necessary to produce non-structural pieces.
Tips: To maximize the fiber properties, use with epoxy or vinyl ester resins. Great for strengthening parts. Polyester resin is also suitable, and is primarily used in cosmetic applications where higher strength-to-weight ratios are not a factor.
